Performance Coaching

Are Creative Blocks Getting In The Way of Your Best Life?

Have you been having difficulty expressing yourself creatively?

Are you dealing with performance issues at work or athletically?

Do you want to overcome your fear of rejection and express yourself more authentically?

Are you struggling with a harsh inner critic and a sense of imposter syndrome?

Maybe you’re an artist, athlete, or leader in the corporate world who feels stuck creatively when it comes to performing and expressing yourself fully. Perhaps you’re dealing with a lack of ideas or inspiration. Or maybe an intense fear of failure is holding you back from seizing new opportunities and achieving your hopes and dreams. Whatever the case, you know that something is getting in the way of your creative process—and in the way of your best life, too.

Additionally, perhaps you feel deeply envious of other artists, athletes, or entrepreneurs who seem deeply connected to their inner creativity. You might sit in awe and wonder and wish you could be as artistic, talented, and dedicated to a craft or skill.

If you feel challenged by creative blocks and want to live a more connected and authentic life, I encourage you to explore performance coaching.  As an Embodied Performance coach, I specialize in helping individuals foster creativity, tap into their true potential, and embody more positive and expansive ways of being. I am confident that I can help you accomplish the same thing.

Resistance Is Part Of The Creative Process

Resistance can take the form of dry spells, distractions, lack of motivation, and a fear of making mistakes in the creative process. Resistance is simply part of the creative journey. Without resistance, it would be very hard to grow your craft. Every great artist, athlete, and leader needs to struggle in order to reach their goals and achieve their full potential. You can’t bat 1.000—sometimes you have to fail, since failure is what teaches you how to adapt and think more deeply about your work.

Many of the people I work with find themselves in creative ruts where they feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. They may feel overly distracted and bogged down with unrelated activities. They may feel stuck in their own self-contained universe, unable to see outside of their own perspective or “get out of their own head.” Sometimes their creative output is hampered by performance anxiety and fear of failure or rejection. Other times their struggles are the result of perfectionism and standards that are simply too high for their own good.

In a fast-paced, work-crazed society like ours, it’s all too easy to fall prey to unrealistic standards of success. There can be intense pressure to make a lot of money, have an active social life, and have a good career, and these pressures are reinforced by social media and advertising culture. Sometimes, it’s hard to tune out all the voices clamoring for our attention and really focus on our true needs and goals. Coaching is a chance to step back, reassess where we want to be, figure out what we need to get there, and reclaim your focus.

Performance Coaching Can Help You Break Through Creative Blocks And Live Fearlessly and Authentically

Creating A Successful Coaching Plan

My approach to coaching is deeply somatic and seeks to empower clients to purposefully and thoughtfully embody more positive and expansive states of being. I practice what I call “expansive embodiment,” where I direct clients into these positive and expansive states by using Hakomi, Expansive Brainspotting Techniques, and other approaches that can help you become more grounded and present in daily life. Mindfulness is also an integral part of what I do, since it can help you become more aware of your inner experiences and more in tune with your needs, desires, and values.

Through this process of deeper self-reflection and expansive embodiment, you can get in touch with creativity, love, truth, serenity, and other ways of being that benefit your artistic or athletic performance. You will learn to recognize and embody the sensations, postures, and emotions associated with these states. This can empower you to overcome your creative blocks and unlock skills that you may have never known you had within you.

As your performance coach, my hope is that the skills that my coaching process provides can help you improve your mental acumen, break through barriers of resistance, and live a more vibrant and creative life. You don’t have to keep feeling stuck—with the right help and support, you can figure out what’s getting in the way of your creating and performing and rediscover your freedom to express yourself.

Whether you’re an athlete, musician, visual artist, entrepreneur, or any other professional looking to deepen your creativity and overcome your fears, I believe that my approach of embodied performance coaching can provide the support you need. My goal is to help you embody your expansive, creative self. Together we will explore your creative process, routines, and blocks and take a closer look at your resources, skills, and desires. This is an opportunity to dig deeper and answer questions like: What does your creative process look like? What sort of strategies do you lean on to foster creativity? What are the fears that keep cropping up? What are your main artistic or athletic goals and do you have the skills to achieve them?

In essence, what we’re doing is discovering and exploring the sources of resistance that prevent your creativity from flowing freely and spontaneously. We’re looking at what’s missing in your creative routine, whether it’s resources, feedback, experience, etc. As a coach, my mission isn’t to give you the answers to these questions, but to help you discover them within yourself. Throughout the performance coaching process, I will continually help you define your goals and hold you accountable in meeting them.

You May Have Some Questions About Performance Coaching…

How can performance coaching really help me with creative blocks?

By taking a somatic approach, my philosophy is to acknowledge and explore the felt sense experience of your creative blocks. If we are curious, we can be aware of sensations, tension, emotions, and underlying beliefs by studying our body experience. In fact, by giving space to our creative blocks, we can move through them and rediscover our freedom to create and express ourselves. In this way, seeking to understand your blocks is the first step to overcoming them.

How do I know that you’ll really understand my challenges?

While it is impossible to be an expert on every method of creating and performing, I understand the somatic experience of creating, being in flow, and experiencing creative blocks. My experience as a club DJ, dance music producer, and martial artist has given me insight into the embodied creative process and the blocks that often come up along the way. Additionally, my somatic training allows for a deep investigation into what gets in the way of artists creating and performing.

Why should I choose coaching instead of therapy?

With coaching, we are essentially looking at a specific aspect of your creative life and asking what tangible skills we can implement to enhance your creative vision. The coaching process is focused more on the present and future, whereas therapy is more focused on the history and context behind your struggles. Therapy is about working through the pain of the past while coaching is about being present in the here and now. Since I am both a coach and a licensed psychotherapist, I can assess whether you’re better suited for therapy or performance coaching when we meet.
